DPAC meeting discussed "The Disengaged Teen"

Griswold Public Schools kicked off the 2025-26 District Partnership Advisory Council Meetings on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, with their virtual meeting to explore what motivates—and disconnects—today’s teens. This special online event, inspired by The Disengaged Teen, featured EASTCONN’s Dr. Erin Dunn and Dr. Ravit Stein for an engaging presentation based on Jenny Anderson and Rebecca Winthrop’s acclaimed book. Attendees gained valuable insights into adolescent disengagement, the influence of learning styles and technology, and actionable strategies to promote lifelong learning and emotional well-being. Watch the recording on GPS's YouTube here.

Cell Phone Use in Connecticut Schools

The Connecticut State Board of Education believes that all students deserve an excellent education that supports growth in knowledge, maturity, wellness, and readiness for a life of success and global citizenship.  The Board further believes that schools must ensure that Personal Technology (Cell Phone) Use in Schools policies address student relationships with technology, online spaces, social media, and cell phones and their impact on learning and mental health. Learn more in the State's Position Statement and Policy Guidance PDF (August 2024).

School is better with you! In school, every day.

The Connecticut State Department of Education's (CSDE) School Is Better with You campaign website offers resources that promote the importance of attending school, every day, while raising awareness about chronic absenteeism (which is missing 10% or more of school, or 18+ days per year). If you're not sure when to keep your child home sick, your child is missing school due to anxiety, or you have other concerns about your child attending school, FAQs on the portal may help.
